Welcome to Sauk Centre Elementary School. My name is Karen Maschler. I have the great fortune of being the Elementary Principal in Sauk Centre. The 2013-2014 school year will be my ninth year as Elementary Principal. My husband and I are proud to have made Sauk Centre the home for our family, which includes three girls, a dog, a cat and several fish. Before my years as a principal, I taught students in kindergarten, grade one, four and five for ten years. I also worked as a reading coordinator and a teacher on special assignment in the areas of curriculum and staff development. In my spare time, which seems to be somewhat limited these days, I love to read, quilt, scrapbook, and make cards.
Sauk Centre Elementary School is home to more than 400 students in pre-K through sixth grade. Our building houses Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), School Readiness, Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), and grades K-6. ECFE provides classes for parents and their children ages 2 to 5. ECSE provides special education services for children from birth to age 7. These services are provided in the home for younger children and in the school for preschoolers and beyond. The kindergarten program is an all day every day program. The Elementary School also offers Title One, Special Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), Integration, Mental Health, and Social Work services. Sauk Centre Elementary School partners with the MN Reading Corps to provide interventions for students in grades K-3 who are struggling in reading. After School Club is offered for students in grades 2-6 and provides additional assistance in reading and math. Fifth and sixth grade students have the opportunity to participate in choir and sixth graders can choose to be a part of the school band. The students at Sauk Centre Elementary are served by 44 certified and 30 non-certified staff, including 5 foster grandparents. Please take some time to look through our website, and we encourage you to come visit us in Sauk Centre, MN.
